Reeza Hendricks’ explosive century powered South Africa to a seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second T20 International at Centurion Park on Friday, securing the series win 2-0 with one game still to play.
Pakistan, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, scored a competitive total of 206/5 in their 20 overs as thanks to a superb unbeaten knock of 98 runs off 57 balls from opener Saim Ayub. However, Hendricks’ scintillating innings of 117 runs from 63 balls took South Africa home, securing the target with three balls to spare. This performance included 10 sixes, marking his maiden T20 International century.
Hendricks put together a 157-run partnership with Rassie van der Dussen, who remained unbeaten on 66 off 38 balls. That partnership broke South Africa’s third-wicket stand record, and the pair helped take the hosts over the line and ensured their series win. For Hendricks, it was his 50th fifty in T20 Internationals; a South African record, going past Quinton de Kock’s 49.
With the series decided, it will be a third and final match played in Johannesburg on Saturday. After this, the teams will take on an all-format tour, with three One-Day Internationals and two Tests.
