Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has finally confirmed his retirement from international cricket, bringing a glorious career in the country’s team to an end. This is nine months since he made the U-turn about his previous retirement statement back in March 2024 after he initially announced his decision in November 2023.
Imad’s last international match was in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States against Ireland. He was brilliant, taking 3 wickets for just 8 runs in his 4 overs. Pakistan’s campaign was short-lived, and fans were disappointed.
Imad played three matches in the 2024 T20 World Cup and took three wickets at an average of 14.66 with an economy rate of 4. He also scored 19 runs in two innings, with a top score of 15.
In his T20I career, Imad played 75 matches for Pakistan and scored 554 runs at an average of 15.82 with a strike rate of 130.04. He took 73 wickets at an average of 21.75 and an economy rate of 6.20 as a bowler.
Imad also contributed significantly in ODIs, playing 55 matches, scoring 986 runs at an impressive average of 42.86, which included five half-centuries. He also took 44 wickets with an economy rate of 4.88, which further cemented his reputation as a reliable all-rounder.
In a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), Imad expressed gratitude to his fans: “Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honor of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable,” he said. “Your unwavering support, love, and passion have always been my biggest strength.”
Imad confirmed his retirement from international cricket but hinted to continue his career in domestic and franchise cricket, adding that “while this chapter is coming to an end, I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket and hope to entertain you all in new ways.”
